Week 3...


This week I focused mainly on completing the last of the interactive consoles as well as trying to add a bit of polish.

- Cargo Screen Update -

One issue I was having with the cargo screen was that It was difficult to add Items since It would require automatically placing it in the inventory or forcing the player to place it before leaving the screen. The compromise I came up with was letting the player hold an item, this solves several problems I was dealing with as it also requires the player walk between the consoles whenever they get a new item to place in storage as well as provides a storage space that can store any item regardless of size meaning it can be an extra storage position when re-organizing the inventory.

- Crafting Screen -

Since I am running so low on time to complete this game jam I had to seriously simplify my planned crafting system. The crafting system adds to the gameplay by giving the player a way to get resources using only a bit of time. It gives the players something to do in the downtime during deep space travel. The mechanism for actually crafting is very simple (due to lack of time) and just requires holding down 3 different buttons.

-  Communications Console -

This console actually worked first try when I was designing it (which was very nice) and includes dialogue trees titles, flavor text, and images (ignore the bottle image in the above picture, its a placeholder). This is only the start for completing the console as I still have to actually add different events that you can encounter (and actual gameplay for that matter)

- Final Week Plans -

I really did not get as much this week as I would have hope, that just means that I have a lot to do with the final week. The major thing I am going to be working on is making the game actually playable. If I have any time left I am going to have to spend a good amount of time polishing it off to put it in a state that is worth showing off.
